Origins Game Fair Day 3 – To Green, or not to Green?

I wasn’t sure how long I was going to make it today. Surprisingly, I’m sitting here, writing this post, and I’ve not had any additional sleep beyond what I got from 6:30-9:00 this morning. I know that people stay up for much longer periods of time with absolutely no sleep at all, but that’s not usually my M.O. So, being awake and alert after only 2.5 hours of sleep in the last 40+ is no mean feat for me; I’m sure I told far too may people that information today. I was (still am) really proud.

Having posted a recap of my morning already, I don’t have a whole lot to relay, but there are two things that occurred that were really stinking awesome.

Firstly, The Cheese Grinder. As I wrote earlier, it was the reason for my lack of sleep, and I did it because it sounded fun at the time, and I had a good, fun run through the various death traps. What I really didn’t expect from my time there was a tangible result. It turns out that I did well enough in my time there to have a chance to be in the running for not one, but two different ways into the Finals tomorrow. The first, which I was aware of when I left (and that I already mentioned somewhere before) is the “Crispy Critter” aware for taking the most damage from one attack. My Halfing Rogue, Pendergrass, died at -434HP.

What I found out today is that I, at the time, had also completed the most challenge rooms, with a total of 8 done. Right now, there’s someone who has me tied for that award, but I still have a very good chance to of retaining my dominance for getting sliced and diced in the most horrible way. If I keep that title through 8AM tomorrow (or today, by the time this gets written and posted), then I get a slot in the finals, tomorrow(today) at 4PM to compete for the title of The King of Cheese. If I manage to win that, I get all the prizes for my award, a license for Hero Lab and a license for d20Pro, and I also get a copy of the Pathfinder Core Rulebook signed by the entire development team! I hope my use of italics imparted to you exactly how awesome I think that would be. Even if I lose my award to another intrepid player, though, I still had a great time playing, and the people running that session deserve praise for their awesomeness.

The other thing that I did today was play in a session of Delta Green. I had said before that the DG session was on the docket, but I found out that the Eclipse Phase game that was canceled yesterday had been rescheduled for today, in the same time slot at Delta Green. So, with the help of one of the people running The Cheese Grinder, I rolled a d6 with Evens being Eclipse Phase and Odds being Delta Green. Delta Green was a super, super game. The guys from ran it, and there’s something to be said for having a really good, really experienced GM running a game. It flowed well, the story was greay, and the players all had a real chance to contribute.

I have been having a great time with this convention. Admittedly, it is my first one, ever, but this was a really good convention to start out with. I haven’t had a bad game yet, and I still have two days left to go. Thanks for coming along for the ride with me.

  1. I’ve been going to Origins every year since 2000. (Sadly, I had to miss this year.) I have to say that the folks from consistently run great games.

  2. Did you end up playing EP? I know one of the fellows who wrote one of the modules for Origins and he’s dying to hear about how things went.
