I put forth a call for goblins – Internet, you delivered!

Three days past I got the idea to put together another Pathfinder Roleplaying game expansion with 12 new magical items.  To make it fun though, I got to thinking what they would be like if they were created by a barely competent, goblin wizard who enjoyed making things for the smaller races.  Gnomes, halflings, goblins and other races that have to say “No, down here!” at bars rejoice!  Mirkmoot has come to your aid.

After creating all of the items and coming up with illustrative images to help define their look, I realized that there was no way in hell I was going to be able to create a goblin.  I mean, I can manipulate stock photos in Gimp or Photoshop sure, but actually draw something?  So I  did what any rational, normalized creator of non-existent magical items based in a fantasy world that exists in my head would do.  I went to Reddit and begged.

I woke up this morning to not one but three goblins in my inbox!  That’s possibly the best 6:07 am moment I’ve had in a long time.  The selection process was a hard one but I’ve settled on the goblin you see below.  That, my friends, is Mirkmoot.

Mirkmoot as illustrated above comes to us from Hunter Heckroth, who’s artwork you should go look at right now!  See his portfolio here and his blog right here.  Really, do yourself a favor and go take a look.  He’s got a style that’s not often seen in fantasy illustration and I really dig it.

And Mirkmoot is shaping up to be quite the interesting character.  He’s vile, barely intelligent enough to qualify as a wizard, short tempered, favors the color Pink and has yet to be able to get the recipes  and rituals quite right when creating magical items.  This leads to some wonderful items with very interesting properties.

His command of  the common tongue also leaves a lot to be desired so figuring out exactly what these things do and how to use them took some effort.

Mirkmoot’s wheelbarrow of magical items has been sorted out and is in the process of being entered into the Troll in the Corner’s Magical Emporium catalog as you read this.  Look for it to appear soon at DriveThruRPG!
