Aion – the MMO where you start off with godlike powers

Aion looks to be an interesting entry into the world of MMOs.  I’ve been hearing for some time about how the standard MMO model is in need of a major refresh as the fantasy/scifi fight/rest/grind/quest formulae is getting old.

Aion may be that first tangible (i.e. published) step in that direction.  For starters, you can fly.  Also rather than working towards god-like powers you start with them being that you’re a god.  It also looks pretty sweet.  Take a gander here and read the press release plus pre-order beta participation details below.

It’s time to get ready to spread your wings and take flight in this year’s biggest massively multiplayer online game (MMO) release, Aion.

Today, NCsoft, the world’s premier publisher and developer of MMOs, unveiled the official release date for Aion, the highly anticipated game where players take on a key role in a war between divine beings that will determine the fate of the world. Aion launches in North America on September 22, 2009 and makes its official debut in Europe starting September 25, 2009.

  1. Tips on Choosing Weapon for Aion Assassin

    Here are some tips for helping assassins to choose weapons in Aion , please read it on and have a good time here!

    1. Resets your auto-attack timer by using a skill.
    2. Having one common autoattack swing with both hands. It doesn’t matter if your offhand is faster. However, faster weapons give you a faster overall swing timer.
    3. The swingtimer seems to reset at the point of your last damage from whatever source, be it autoattack or a skill, independant of animation.
    4. for one autoattack swing with both hands, either both hits crit or neither.
    5. Daggers on avarage do 85% the damage swords the same level do . This cancels out nicely with their speed advantage.
    6. Daggers have a higher inherit critical hit chance than swords.
    7. Swords have a higher damage variation than daggers do. This means that swords can relatively hit harder but also softer than its avarage damage than a dagger.
    8. Swords have a chance to hit twice on autoattack. As with critical hits, either both swings or none of one autoattack hit double.
    9. Your mainhand and offhand have separate stats for accuracy and critical chance. Inherit weapon stats – this means crit, accuracy, parry and damage – all apply to their respective hand only. Carrying a dagger in your offhand opposed to a sword will not increase your mainhand critrate.
    10. Bonus stats from green and better weapons as well as manastones apply to both hands.
    11. For autoattacks the critchance and accuracy is avaraged between mainhand and offhand as you have no separate chances to crit .
    12. Skilldamage depends solely on mainhand damage.
    13. Skills use stats off your mainhand for all calculations.
    14. The bonus stat “attack +” seems to be applied after all skill damage calculations as the tooltip’s damage numbers don’t chance when you de-/equip an offhand weapon with attack +. Think of it as a flat damage plus.
    15. Skills scale with weapon damage in a really arcane way I have yet to figure out. Stronger weapons seem to give higher relative damage increases.
