What to do when you have an idea for a SciFi blockbuster with plenty of special effects, talented actors and a script in hand but you just can't get the funding together? If you're the folks at Spiral Productions you politely give the finger to thoughts of funding and script shopping then you go out and make your live action effects laden SciFi blockbuster. If that's not impressive enough, the film looks good and this is coming from a SciFi movie aficionado. Project London is an epic film with huge budget worthy special effects, and plenty of them, created by volunteers on the web and resulting in an actual, watchable, movie.

We've covered the soon to be movie phenomenon Project London before here on TC. Back in June of '09 it looked like a very cool idea making its way into realization. Now, it's set to be an actual, real, kick-ass SciFi movie in the near future! How cool is that? One of our celebrity friends, Jen Page is in the cast, which is also an added bonus for everyone.

Last year I was able to catch up with Gabriel, filmsmith and all around cool guy who was developing Tex: Vampire Hunter (or) Make Thick My Blood: A Tragedy in One Act. The film had a bunch of stuff going for it right from the outset. Vampires. Cowboys. Jen Page. Blood and gore. All the good stuff.

Like role playing games? Humor? Movies? Critical fumbles? We've talked a lot about and with various folks from the Dead Gentlemen. They're not dead and they're not all gentlemen and they've been getting their new site ready for launch. Today it has sprung fully formed on to the Internet!

If you're going to be at SpoCon this weekend, be sure to stop by the Charity auction on Sunday to own a piece of geek/dork/movie/luster history! Our favorite actress Jen Page has donated the red gloves worn by her character Luster in the movie Gamers: Dorkness Rising.

Previously I wrote a bit about a new short coming our way soon. Tex: Vampire Hunter or Make Thick My Blood: A Tragedy in One Act. I caught up with Gabriel, the man responsible for the movie and had a chance to talk briefly about this freaking awesome vampire western. Gabriel started his project through the Seattle Film Institute but it seems to have taking on a life of it's own and grown a bit bigger than a final project. Now it's a full fledged, hand-carved wooden bullet vampire slay fest.

Welcome to Tex: Vampire Hunter, a forthcoming film directed by Lautaro Gabriel Gonda which spins itself out thus: Tex is a gunslinger in the old west who has dedicated his life to hunting down and killing vampires. His travels bring him to a brothel used by vampires as a front to lure their victims. This evil bordello also happens to be run by his ex-lover, a beautiful vampire named Elisabeta. Tex is haunted by his past, but will he be able to discover the dark secret that binds him to his prey, or will his righteous rage blind him?

Our favorite actress here at TC is currently filming another independent film. This time it’s a monster movie with some twists that goes by the name of TARA. I had a chance to speak with Ace, one of the folks responsible and I got some details of the film. Pre-production (which took 7 months) is over and as of April they’ve been filming. They’re roughly half way through shooting so this post may qualify as the first bit of extra info out in the ether.

This looks amazing for several reasons. It's a SciFi film which is always a good start. It's also a home-grown, independent film driven mostly by volunteers. Even more impressive, there are about 500 visual effects shots, composed via Blender and done by 3D artists around the world.

If you've seen The Gamers: Dorkness Rising, you know who Luster is. If you don't know who Luster is, go watch the film. Jen Page (Luster in G:DR) is the multi-talented woman who plays the female Luster in the the flick. She's also something of a geek, gamer and SF/F afficionado as well as wrangling web pages for Wizards of the Coast and being cool enough to willingly submit to an interview with me.
