Looks like EA is ready for some football. They've purchased a spot during the Superbowl to highlight their newest franchise - Dante's Inferno. Over the weekend they also dropped this nice (up to 720p) video montage of what hell may be like if you carry a fantastically large penis scythe.

So it turns out that EA is so paranoid, so chained to oppressive DRM, that they have basically made playing Dragon Age (a single player only game) without a connection to their servers for verification impossible. Grow a pair EA. If you are going to be draconian with us about your DRM measures, do it to our faces.

EA let slip today that the Sims 3 will not ship with intrusive DRM (read SecuROM). EA sites past backlashes, particularily Spore as the main reason. So far it looks like the Sims 3 will ship with a CD Key activation and . . . well, that's it. If this is true, then I'm willing to give EA a bit of a golf clap and let's see what happens with other forthcoming titles.

I find it a bit interesting that Stardock who have gone out of their way to not use intrusive DRM, to talk to those folks who do pirate games and to be all around good about treating folks who purchase their games as consumers and not criminals are in the process of expanding.

I noticed today on GamePolitics that two more class action suits had been brought up against EA and their use of SecuROM software. You can read the PDFs here and here. This time the suits concern the installation of SecuROM when an EA product was installed. Yeah, that's nothing new - except these were demo versions of the game. DEMOS.

I understand I am only one person, just one paying customer duly handing over my money in exchange for the use of your software. I realize that no one in your company may even read this but I feel that it needs to be said and that other paying consumers feel the same as I do. There are a lot of us out here buying your products or you would not be in the business you are in. It is my hope that others will share my feelings and agree with this letter. And go one step further by becoming vocal about it.
