There is a fan made Excel character sheet available on the Eclipse Phase forums.

It helps negate the potential headaches of character generation math.

I've got the Sunward PDF in my review queue as well. =) It's further down the list since I just covered Eclipse Phase, but I am going to be to looking at it in the not-too-distant future.

It only gets better. I had a friend nab me a copy of Sunward, the new book for Eclipse Phase, at Gencon and it's also suitably awesome. Not a drop in quality from the core rule at all. I love reading more details into at part of the setting, Mars especially. It also has a nice balance of fun to read fluffy bits and fun to use crunchy bits. I don't think it's really available in dead tree format for general sale yet, but it's worth nabbing the PDF that ~is~ on sale.

OMG!

There are 2 books rated ULTRA-RARE in the DarkSun line. The Will and The Way, and Earth Air Water Fire.

Back when I was trying to buy the whole set, 6 Darksun books/mod went for $30-$40. Either of those books, alone, went for $75 or more. In fact, Amazon is telling me "2 new from $138.84"

That is a fantabulous idea, but I'd have to get my hands on the new Dark Sun books to have a chance at doing that. Given my post-convention budget, I'd have to land a review copy somehow. Anyone know who I should email at WotC? =)

Dark Sun is one of those just perfectly awesome settings. Any chance you'll be doing a comparison with the new Dark Sun, Tracy?

OK...I absolutely loved the game!

I'm the old school gamer who loves to role play without having to become a rules lawyer. Nothing irks me more than having to delve through piles of books just to decide if Player "A" can cast a particular spell while player "B" is causing a distraction by pounding a goblin to a pulp on the other side of the room. I agree that a few more conditional modifiers need to developed....but the rules provide plenty of common sense guidance for old guys like me to quickly make a decision. I come from the "old school" of gaming where situational decisions require the players and GM to simply "wing it" under some very basic guidelines. Have you ever been in one of those situations where you tried to "wing" a decision with a group of book thumping 3.5'ers? I have and gets beyond frustrating....

So W, R & M was a true breath of fresh air for me....great job Michael. @Nundahl...thanks for running a great adventure and for introducing me to this cool game! I can't wait to design a few adventures for our group and see how things play out :-)

I agree, it certainly makes it more interesting when you have a good GM(I would say we do, but I don't want him getting a swelled head). I've known some GMs who would simply say "It's not in the book, thus you can't do that."

I tend to prefer rules light systems for just that reason, more freedom to interpret your abilities. Even when we play 3.5 or Savage Worlds, etc I like characters with versatile abilities(illusion spells can be great fun for instance). But you need some ability to think outside the box to get the most out of this type of game, rather than just memorizing all the rules and lawyering your way through the game world.
