About Ben

I'm a geek. A nerd, a dweeb, whatever. Yes I owned garb, yes I still own medieval weaponry. And yeah, I could kick your butt in Mechwarrior the CCG. I love video games, role playing games, tactical board games and all forms of speculative fiction. I will never berate someone for wanting to be a Jedi and take everything Gary Gygax ever wrote as gospel. Well, all of this but that last bit.

Indie Talks Episode 52 – Stephen Buonocore of Stronghold Games returns http://trollitc.com/2014/08/indie-talks-episode-52-stephen-buonocore-of-stronghold-games-returns/ Wed, 06 Aug 2014 07:00:55 +0000 http://trollitc.com/?p=26923 [...]]]> sglogo

Stephen Buonocore of Stronghold Games comes back to the podcast with so many games, if you were to decimate his 2014 lineup, he’d still have nine titles left! We talk a bit about scheduling games from production to street date and what a miracle that can be and a few other industry tidbits. We also go over Stronghold’s upcoming catalog which includes some really juicy games, from Space Cadets expansions on all fronts, through Among the Stars and Core Worlds, to an excellent trick taking game, several nicely weighted Euros and a reprint of the amazing looking Medina. There’s a bit of discussion on the upcoming Vlaada Chvatil game Pictomania and of course, we talk beer. Catch up to Stronghold on Twitter and Facebook as well.

In other news – I’ve launched my Extra Life campaign! I’m out to raise $3500 for children’s hospitals, and Team Troll is out to raise more! I’ve reached out to publishers to support this event, and Stephen of Stronghold Games jumped right in! They’ve got 10 new games on the way this year – and have just launched their pre-orders for many of these titles. Stephen not only donated several games to give away during our events but also made a cash donation to the cause! Thanks!

This episode of Indie Talks is brought to you by Stronghold Games.

Ed and I talk about Liftoff – Get me off this Planet! The new board game being Kickstarted right now! We go into game design, running a good Kickstarter campaign, shoot down the rabbit hole of Kickstarter and your local game shop, hop back up and then go into great detail about Liftoff – and why it’s a game you’ll want to back. Liftoff has a few things going for it that set it apart from other worker placement (or worker evacuation) games. A set time for the game being my favorite – when the world explodes, the world explodes and that game is over. It also has cute little aliens, and lots of replay ability thanks to a modular board.

Find out more on the Liftoff Facebook page.

My team, Team Troll raised over $6500! This year I’ve set my personal goal at $3500 and I’m already on my away. Someone has the audacity to try and ambush us using trees. Our mage comes <—-> that close to joining our once deceased kobold, and then we wander into a city and paint it red.

Lip smacking highlights:

 • The party discover magical, chanting little people
 • And promptly start a small religious war.
 • The party discovers a magical bowl of intense power and meaning.
 • The party discovers why it’s not a good idea to use a magical bowl of intense power and meaning as a shield.
 • Someone drops a tree on the party.
 • Then the party finds a way into a city, and buys all the supplies.

Welcome to our fourth full session of Actual Play Old School RPG! Join our team of intrepid adventurers as they take on Orcs, unmade beds and thousands of doors using Palladium’s Fantasy RPG, 1st Edition.

In this episode, we encounter more orcs than you can shake a pointed stick at. We uncover a potential enemy in a human who appears to be scheming with those same orcs. We also uncover a lot of beds, finding out just what orcs do in there. Our GM was viciously attacked by an 8 lb. house cat. Lastly, we meet our match in a human/orc mixed group who manage to kill one of our own, which caused us to get rich.

Our team

Scott: GM

Ben: Hamish Snozzle (3rd level Elf Wizard and food collector) and Heretofor Unamed (3rd level Assassin and lover of large, pointy things).

Dan: Mukkluk (3rd level Kobold Mind Mage, recently deceased).

Jenn: Echo (3rd level Human Warlock and potentially evil fireball slinger).

The oscar award winning moments

 • The party kill a significant percentage of the Orc population.
 • But leave the kitchen staff alone, in case They’re feeling peckish.
 • The party find out that human/orc relations are deteriorating except between several, special friends.
 • The Kobold finds yet another secret door.
 • The party discovers a graveyard in a sub-dungeon, after fighting off a band of walking dead.
 • The Kobold meets his maker.
 • They all get rich.
 • The party collects the largest bits of the Kobold in preparation for Episode 5.

Welcome to our third full session of Actual Play Old School RPG! Join our team of intrepid adventurers as they take on Orcs and Ogres using Palladium’s Fantasy RPG, 1st Edition.

In this episode, we get jumped by a pig. With a stinger! Then we talk a bunch of highly trained, heavily armed troops in to letting us scout for them. In our scouting mission, we kill giant wolves with knives, open a bunch of doors and accidentally bypass the majority of the dungeon.
Our team

Scott: GM

Ben: Hamish Snozzle (3rd level Elf Wizard) and Heretofor Unamed (2nd level Assassin, almost good creeper).

Dan: Mukkluk (3rd level Kobold Mind Mage and Pole arm Tosser).

Jenn: Echo (Human Warlock and Not-worg impaler).

The check mix

 • The party was assaulted by some sort of pig/scorpion hybrid. We won.
 • We stood aside as 60 armed knights rode past. They talked to us and somehow we ended up richer, and walking 50 kilometers to reconnoiter a keep.
 • Before they reached the keep, they got jumped by orcs riding wolves. The warlock casts her first spell of the game, and then impales several wolves with sharp, pointy things.
 • The spellcasters level up. Fireball becomes an option.
 • They open doors.
 • They then bypass a good chunk of the dungeon thus giving our GM fits.

Welcome to our second full session of Actual Play Old School RPG! Join our team of intrepid adventurers as they take on Orcs and Ogres using Palladium’s Fantasy RPG, 1st Edition.

In this episode – we begin to record just as a nasty thunder and lightning storm moves through! We rescue the salty mouthed innkeep, reunite her with her daughter and get slapped around by some orcs. Only to realize that we’ll once again have to cross that river, and try to get the attention of an entire fort of soldiers who think this is just another boring day on the dusty frontier. Lastly, we get mugged.

Our team

Scott: GM

Ben: Hamish Snozzle (2nd level Elf Wizard) and Heretofor Unamed (2nd level Assassin, Olympic swimmer).

Dan: Mukkluk (Kobold Mind Mage and footwear expert).

Jenn: Echo (Human Warlock and Mr. Universe competitor).

The fiddly bits:

 • The party tracked down a small band of Orcs, panicked a bit and rescued the innkeeper.
 • They escorted her back towards the keep. Or was it the other way around?
 • Once again they valiantly strove against a not so raging river, and mostly prevailed.
 • On arriving back at the keep, they talked their way into the captains office and underwhelmed him with tales of orcs and ogres.
 • They then ran like little girls from the approaching non-human army.
 • In the last encounter of the session, they mostly slept, but not on purpose.

Indie Talks Special – Old School Actual Play (OSAP) Palladium Fantasy RPG 1st edition: Episode 1 http://trollitc.com/2014/05/indie-talks-special-old-school-actual-play-osap-palladium-fantasy-rpg-1st-edition-episode-1/ Fri, 30 May 2014 14:00:38 +0000 http://trollitc.com/?p=26646 [...]]]> osap

This here is a special, additional feature thrown into Indie Talks! Nearly four years ago, four of us got together to relive our childhood by playing Palladium Fantasy RPG (1st Edition). These are live, often NSFW recordings of those sessions. The regular twice monthly episodes will continue as normal, in addition to these OSAP posts.

We’re playing the Palladium Fantasy RPG (1st edition, thank you very much) and enjoying the hell out of it. No maps, no minis, no censors, almost no editing!

In this, our second session but first adventure, join the party as they defeat any number of enemies and are in turn defeated by a stupid river and an inept assassin (played by yours truly). Two hours and twenty four minutes of actual play goodness. If the 80?s music bothers you, it get’s turned down within this episode.

In this episode:

Scott – GM, nominally in charge.

Jenn – Echo, a 1st level Human Warlock.

Dan – Mukklukk, a 1st level Kobold Mind Mage.

Ben – Hamash Snozzle, a 1st level Elvish Wizard & Heretofor Unknamed, a 1st level Elvish Assassin.

This episode has been rated Not Safe For Work due to adult language, and in general acting a bit like 15 year old dinks.

Points of interest:

 • The party is given a mission to deliver several magically defended boxes.
 • They realize that they won’t be able to steal them, so continue on with their mission.
 • On arriving to their delivery destination, they find the town laid to waste and acquire a 10 year old girl.
 • But – they pick up a trail. The trail of a large army. The waste laying army that. . . laid the town?
 • On coming to a large river, the party loses most of the day and most of the assassin trying to cross.
 • In the last encounter of the session, the party is viciously attacked by spell casting fairy pigs… or were they?

Stephen Hood folks!

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably heard of Storium by now. An online, storytelling game that’s currently thriving on Kickstarter. I’ve been able to poke around the beta version a bit and it’s fascinating! In this episode, Stephen’s going to tell us how Storium came about, and what makes it pretty darned unique in the online, storytelling arena. I’ve got to say that I’m personally very excited for this project as well. It scratches so many gaming and creative itches all at once. You should absolutely check it out, and check them out on Twitter for the latest and greatest.

We also get a preview of Evil Hat’s latest card game – Zeppelin Attack, which is on Kickstarter right now. We also cover crowd sourcing in general, and the newest craze, Patreon.

Speaking of Patreon, I’ve launched a campaign for this very podcast! Please come on over to Patreon.com/Trollitc and check it out. There’s a $2 a month buy in (that’s a max of $2) and other tiers as well to get you some free games, or a chance to join me on a podcast with one of our guests! Having some support would go a very long way towards keeping this podcast alive, getting better equipment to make it sound better and help fulfill a longer term goal of more content, more often. Thanks!

Another great way to support the podcast is to head on over to the iTunes page and rate it! If you enjoy this podcast, taking five or ten minutes to give us some stars and write a quick review will go a long way towards getting this show more popular, with more listeners. This means greater content and more shows!

And as promised – Fred’s Gamer Chili recipe!

Variants include throwing in a cup of ditalini or macaroni pasta half an hour before it’s done, which can soak up liquid when the chili is being especially wet. The presence of the pasta can also mitigate the feeling of “denseness”.

Hardware

 • Slow cooker (high capacity if you have it)
 • Measuring spoons and cup

Software

 • Ground beef (1-2 lbs depending on “meatiness” desired), browned and drained separately
 • 1 jar of medium salsa
 • 1 can of diced tomatoes
 • 1 6oz can of tomato paste
 • 1 red pepper, diced
 • 1 yellow pepper, diced
 • 1 green pepper, diced
 • 1-2 onions, chopped
 • 1 can of (dark) red kidney beans
 • 2-4 cloves minced garlic
 • 2 teaspoons white sugar
 • 1/4-1/2 cup tequila (proportional to beef)
 • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
 • 1 1/2 tablespoons ground cumin
 • 1 tablespoon chili powder
 • 1 tablespoon dried basil
 • 2 tablespoons dried oregano
 • 1 tablespoon (saigon) cinnamon

Procedure

Brown ground beef separately, draining off the fat. Combine with other ingredients in a hot pot. Cook High for 3-4 (you can double this and go low, but the flavors blend almost too much, and our experience with it is that the high method works best, keeping the flavors more distinct and “bright”). Serve, eat.

After spending a few nights this week talking with three folks involved in gaming – the Zeppeldrome guys (Anthony Gallela and Jeff Wilcox) and Fred Hicks of Evil Hat, I’ve decided I really need to keep doing the Indie Talks Podcast. I love doing it! I very much enjoy talking with people in the gaming industry who are entirely responsible for the hobby we all love. And I love sharing it with the world.

To that end, I’ve revamped, and relaunched a Patreon campaign to help garner support for Indie Talks. I really do want to keep this podcast vibrant and alive, but justifying the time it takes away from my family and other projects is getting tough.

Here’s a chance to support me and the podcast. Get a bunch of my games, and even a chance to hang out and virtually schmooze with me and some folks in the industry. You could be a guest interviewer along with me on an episode of Indie Talks! Support levels range from a buck an episode (to a total of $2 a month, even if more episodes are released) to $10 in a limited support level where you get to be a guest host with me on Indie Talks. There’s also a middle tier of $3 an episode (up to a maximum of $6/month) that gets you access to all of my current and future game releases as PDFs.

Having some support would go a very long way towards keeping this podcast alive, getting better equipment to make it sound better and help fulfill a longer term goal of more content, more often.

Thanks!

-Ben

We also talk about game design in general, and John and Isaac’s process of getting a game from thought, to cardboard.

Check out Plaid Hat Games online, and also check out Isaac and John online as well!

About Ben

This episode I’m joined by Angelia Parenteau, Media Director for the gaming convention Total Confusion! TotalCon takes place in Mansfield MA in February of every year and it’s by far my favorite convention to attend. I’m tacking this one into my Game School section of podcasts as well, as we talk an awful lot about how to actually run a convention – everything from planning meetings to pulling off four days of gaming.

Total Confusion bills itself as the largest gaming convention in New England. It may not be the largest (I’m looking at you PAX East) but it certainly is the largest aimed strictly at table top games. If you’re anywhere near New England this February 20-23 you should absolutely attend! Say hello to me, and a whole bunch of people I’ve had on this very podcast.

You heard me speaking about Patreon at the intro to this podcast. If you’d like to support me and the podcast, as well as have a chance to support my small box game releases, please drop by and consider becoming my patron!

His partner in crime, the longest beard on the podcast, Dan Curran! He’s got an ongoing Kickstarter that handily covers both of these topics! You can hardly throw a +2 knife in the RPG world without hitting either Never Unprepared or now Odyssey: The Complete Game Master’s Guide to Campaign Management – two amazing books about the art of running a role playing session by Phil Vecchione. He’s also one of the gnomes over at Gnome Stew and soon you’ll see his name on some pretty impressive games and game supplements.

Phil and I chat about our similar gaming life, Palladium and how he got into the hobby, started writing about the hobby and is now writing for the hobby. He nearly tripped me up on the snack question as well, but luckily my wife is quick on her feet and offered me a solution.

Phil seems to hang around Gnome Stew quit a bit, and you can also find works like Never Unprepared and Odyssey at DriveThruRPG.

This time around we highlight Smash Monster Rampage, and also talk about other 5th Street Titles, including my kid’s obsession with My Happy Farm. Daniel Solis joins me in Episode 28 to talk about games. Designing games, writing games, playing games and possibly even eating games. Join us as we talk game design, the urge to create, dragon poop and milk stout!

Who is Daniel Solis? If you haven’t hear of him, you should have, and now you will have! Stripped directly form his own site: Daniel Solis is a multiple award-winning game designer.

Daniel designs games of all kinds. Do: Pilgrims of the Flying Temple broke funding records on Kickstarter and won several awards, including the Inn. Daniel has been featured or interviewed on NPR’s On the MediaWired (three times), WGN Radio, and numerous podcasts. He created the Thousand-Year Game Design Challenge to encourage long-term thinking and sustainability in game design. This work has been recognized by Jane McGonigalthe Long Now Foundation, and Tor. He’s currently developing Belle of the Ball, a fine and dandy card game for 2-4 players. In fact, you’ve got about 11 days left to check it out on Kickstarter! It’s already funded, so go get yourself a copy! In the US, the buy in is only $25 and included shipping.

I’d also like to mention that this year’s Extra Life campaign is live! I’ll be playing table top games for not 24 hours straight, but 25 hours straight to raise money for Children’s Hospitals. Please check out my Extra Life page and if you have a few bucks, I’d greatly appreciate your sponsorship!

This year I’m treating this one (granted full) day event as my own little convention. I had the somewhat crazy idea to reach out to game publishers and see about getting some prize support for those folks who’ll be joining Team Troll and themselves raising money for Extra Life.

A goodly number of wonderful publishers responded, including these two awesome companies, who’s games I love!

Gamewright Games did an amazing thing and sent us three awesome games! Forbidden IslandGubs and Monster Cafe!

My family are all big fans of Forbidden Island – it’s the perfect cooperative game for my kids and is interesting enough to make me want to play again! I’ve only had a little experience with Gubs and Monster Cafe is completely new to me!

Greater than Games have just done good! They just sent over two copies of their flagship game, Sentinels of the Multiverse! All to support Extra-life! I’m super excited about this one as I’ve been reading an awful lot about this game and hearing and seeing nothing but good things. As with all of the publishers who have contributed to this fundraising venture, I’d highly encourage you to support them with your voice, and your wallet!

I get to congratulate yet another Ennie award winner in the person of Chris Helton! Battlefield Press, who Chris is part owner, published the wonderful and Ennie award winning Eldritch Skies! Chris and I talk getting into gaming, making the transition from creative gamer to game creation and what it’s like to win an Ennie award. We also discuss his newest project, which deals with the as of yet untapped RPG genre of paranormal romance!

A big thanks to two more publisher who stepped up and gave us some games to support our players and events so we can raise even more money for children’s hospitals!

A huge thanks to Eagle-Gryphon games! They’ve stepped up and have some titles heading my way! They have a couple of exciting new titles that you should check out! Francis Drake – Return to a bustling Plymouth Harbor in 1572 as an aspiring Elizabethan captain making preparations for three exciting voyages to the Spanish Main in search of fame and fortune! As captains, players will have to plan their missions and provision their ships accordingly. Also take a gander at Karesansui – As Grade Two monastery initiates in Karesansui – the cutthroat game of Zen gardening – it will be your great honor to tend the Masters’ rock gardens. Each morning the Grade Ones arrive with rocks they’ve gathered, then haul away the rocks that you don’t need anymore – but there aren’t enough Grade One initiates to go around, so there will be competition for the best selection of rocks.

I would also be remiss if I didn’t mention that Eagle-Gryphon have published two titles from on of my favorite game designers, Alf Seegert! Check out The Road to Canterbury and Fantastiqa!

Alderac Entertainment Group (or as most of us know them, AEG) generously supplied several games towards my campaign and Team Troll! AEG provided us with Guildhall, Card of the Dead and Maximum Throwdown! Some will be heading out to team members, some will be played by yours truly! I’d also like to point out two of my favorite AEG games!

First, Love Letter. Very simple, 16 cards, a few wooden cubes and a bag – but infinitely repayable with just enough back stabbing goodness to make it really fun. This game is also the darling of our Google Plus Board Games community – it seems most gamers love it, and it’s cheap to boot!

Next, a game that’s been out for a while, but which I finally had a chance to play this weekend, and fall in love with. Smash Up! The base game comes with 8 different faction decks of 20 cards each. Such things as robots, ninjas and dinosaurs to name a few. Each player grabs two different decks, smashes them together and then attempts to take over as many bases as they can, while also fending off the other players. Well worth grabbing as a fun, 30-45 minute game for 2-4 players.

Welcome to episode 26! Today I’m joined by Carl Pinder and we’re going to talk Virtual Table Top – specifically the one Carl’s developing himself, Tabletop Connect 3D. Tabletop Connect is a 3D virtual tabletop that lets you connect with your friends to play RPGs just like you’re at a real table. As we were recording, the Kickstarter for Tabletop Connect 3D, which has only been active for three days, hit 30% of its goal!

Carl’s got some innovative and ideas for this VTT that are well worth checking out, and offers access to the alpha version as soon as you back the project.

We talk VTTs, gaming in the 80’s, Carls lengthy experience working on some very well known video game titles and of course his goals and ideas for Tabletop Connect 3D.

I want to give a huge shout out to Stronghold Games in the person of Stephen M. Buonocore. Stephen stepped up immediately and offered several titles from the Stronghold Games catalog. Please head on over to the Stronghold Games site and check out their summer releases, Vampire Empire, Voluspa, Time ‘N’ Space and the next expansions for Revolver 1.

Even cooler than that – right now you can grab Space Cadets: Dice Duel as a LIMITED RELEASE of SIGNED COPIES by the designers Sydney and Geoff Engelstein. This will only be going on for a couple of weeks and it’s happening before you can even pre-order the game.

We’re back baby! It’s been a while my friends, but life just got in my way. Too much day job, lots of other things going on and what can you do? The answer is nothing. That tough bit’s ended though and tonight we’re recording with Peter ‘Blix’ Bryant as he talks about his latest project, Rogue Chess! Launched just a few days ago on Kickstarter, it’s a whole new take on strategy.

You can catch the Kickstarter here, and catch up with Peter’s Studio 187 to see what else he’s up too!

Peter’s long been involved with the Fringeworthy RPG from Tri-Tac Games and is also the creator of The Cube Of Death, a game that has regularly kicked my ass at conventions around New England. When he’s not busy writing games or working on secret government projects, he also hosts his own podcast, ConMen – a show covering conventions all across the world.

In other news, I’ve set all of my titles at DriveThruRPG to be “Pay What You Want” – pay five dollars, or pay nothing. You decide!

In this episode, it’s all about the card games. Hull Breach is a “fast, brutal, sci-fi card game that blends the randomness of dice and cards with individual skill and tactical might.”

I had a chance to take a quick look at this game at Total Confusion XVII and it looks fantastic! It’s a fast paced, sci-fi game that has a bunch of combat and a bunch of actual active duty and veteran military people involved in its creation. The artwork is great and getting better, game play was fast and fun and it looks like a really tight, well play tested product.

Check out the video below and then head directly to the Hull Breach Kickstarter campaign.

Jen Page and Monte Cook! The Geek Seekers have joined me in this, our 19th episode. You all should be quite familiar with Jen by now, from previous podcasts, interviews and oh, I don’t know, the several movies she’s been in that deal directly with awesome things like RPGs and flying robots. I’m also positive Monte is a name everyone here recognizes, D&D, Numenera, fiction, games, dice, conventions, awesome.

Did you know that these two have joined forces, like a less populous but equally powerful Justice League to form the Geek Seekers? Geek Seekers is a new web series with Jen Page and Monte Cook investigating the paranormal, UFOs, and all sorts of weirdness, all the while acting like the geeks they truly are.

We talk Geek Seekers, Monte’s forthcoming RPG and video game Numenera, Jen’s films Project London and Gamers: Hands of Fate, where to get cheap glasses online, and putting an end to all that pesky online fighting about the best kind of RPG. Seriously folks, just take the games you love and enjoy them. Monte and Jen said so.

Also in this show – Indie Talks has a contest coming up! You could win yourself an awesome custom dice bag from Greyed Out! Take a look now, and prepare yourself for contest details in Episode 20.

While you’re looking at cool things, check out the Blasphemous Cocktails kickstarter! A book of adult beverage recipes inspired by the likes of Lovecraft, which can also be used as in in game reference.

Look for Monte’s page, Numenera info and his publications. Jen will soon be seen in Project London, Gamers: The Hands of Fate and has recently opened her own corner of Etsy – Chaotic Newt (Troll).

Hi, folks! Just me on this, the last episode of 2012. In this episode, we’ll cover a slight bit of Indie Talks history, taking a brief look at who we have had on as guests. Then I’d like to talk a bit about a few things coming just around the corner, such as 2013 and a little something called Growing Geeks! We’ll look at the TCPN, talk a few game deals for last minute shoppers, and finally bid adieu to 2012.

Project London is a feature-length, science-fiction, action-adventure movie with 774 visual effects made by over 250 volunteers. We’ve covered the movie before and now I sit down with three of the folks responsible for Project London! Ian is the producer, writer and SFX wiz, Phil is the executive producer, film maker and all around mastermind and Jen is a principle actor playing Xing Xing Fix.

We talk about actually creating the movie, the technology that went into the movie, auditioning, Creative Commons, the passion that goes into a volunteer project, 774 freaking visual effects shots, and of course, who’s going to sing at the end of the podcast. Also Half Acre Day who did some amazing music for the film, swampy green hair and the future of the future with Project London!

Indie Talks Episode 15 – Jay Libby of G-Core fame http://trollitc.com/2012/12/indie-talks-episode-15-jay-libby-of-g-core-fame/ Wed, 05 Dec 2012 08:00:18 +0000 http://trollitc.com/?p=21752 [...]]]>

In this episode I’m talking G-Core with creator Jay Libby! We talk super heroes, Total Confusion (the most awesome game convention in the North East), slip in a goat reference or two, discuss the finer points of art, writing and of course, snacks! Jay even called me “in shape” which I thought was nice of him. Mike Pondsmith gets lots of kudos from Jay and we talk a bit about old school.

You can find Dilly Green Bean Games online, check out G-Core and other assorted products on DriveThruRPG and also check out the G Core Facebook page, House of Jay for art and the Yahoo group with tons of useful RPG files.

And while we’re at it, if you’re anywhere in or near New England come February – get yourself out to Total Confusion! Best convention in NE.

Welcome to a special edition of Indie Talks. Today we’re going to hop into the wayback machine and travel back to 2008. At that point, Troll in the Corner didn’t even exist, but I was just as much a geek! I found myself and a few others working with me with press credentials to the New York Comic Con – and the very first panel we stopped in to see? The Legends of Comic Books panel.

The panel was headlined by Stan Lee, and featured Murphy Anderson, Dick Ayers, Ramona Fradon, John Romita, Jerry Robinson, Joe Simon and Joe Sinnott. While only a half hour long, a bunch of neat stuff was crammed into this panel. I was fortunate enough to grab some good audio at the time, which I just rediscovered recently! What you’re missing in this 26 minutes of audio is the brief introduction by the panel moderator, and at the end, the moderator saying what a pleasure it was to be involved.

Indie Talks Episode 14 – Victor Varnado! Actor, Comedian, Director and Creator of Realm of LARP http://trollitc.com/2012/11/indie-talks-episode-14-victor-varnado-actor-comedian-director-and-creator-of-realm-of-larp/ Wed, 21 Nov 2012 08:00:40 +0000 http://trollitc.com/?p=21654 [...]]]>

For episode 14 Victor Varnado joins me to talk about his fantastic series Realm of LARP! Follow the adventures of Steve the Ogre, Crimson the sorceress, Dubach the warrior, Barrington the Knight, Tuck the all around troublemaker (and run away star of the show). Realm of LARP (Youtube) is definitely the best treatment of the LARPing hobby I’ve seen to date. It’s funny without resorting to making fun of the hobby, engaging and at 11 episodes long, entirely digestible. Lets spread the word about this!

Unfortunately Skype wasn’t being on its best behavior and there’s a few times when the audio gets a bit fuzzy. Damn you free service! Occasional Skype weirdness aside, Victor shines through as the LARPiest film maker we’ve ever had on the show.

If getting a show about LARPing on the Nerdist wasn’t enough, Victor’s an actor, director, comedian, creative wiz and much more than I can go into here. Check him at at bestalbino.com and victorvarnado.com and do yourself a favor, check out his stand up too!

This episode I’m all by my lonesome as I talk board games. Over the weekend I had a chance to sink my teeth into Fantastiqa, the new game by Alf Seegert published by Gryphon Games. (here’s the BGG link). Alf was a guest on this very show back in epiosde 5a. It’s name not withstanding, it’s freaking fantastic! I’ll tell you a bit about how this game plays and why you should get it when you can. For those of you who kickstarted it, you’re gonna love it! I also talk briefly about what’s going on with Upgrade Wars (Prototype #2 is on the way!) and we delve into a few games from my annual holiday panic 60 games for mostly under $20 list.
