Hello and welcome to the Troll in the Corner!
Our aim is to provide a fun, vibrant community for folks like us. Who are we you might ask?
We’re gamers. We love RPGs, board games, video games, CCGs, dice games, games where you juggle live hedgehogs. You name it, we love it. We’re figuring you do as well or you wouldn’t be here.
We’re comic book readers. Give us a cover where someone is wearing a cape or a nice example of Onomatopoeia and we’re in heaven. Who needs sunlight when there are stacks to read, sort and box up?
We’re SF/F fans. Elves and of course Trolls rock. Give them a beam weapon and the ability to hack SSL certs on a distributed network of proto-AIs and we’re talking good times.
Recently TC has taken an interest in independent (and I guess dependent) films. There’s a whole world of interesting short and feature length films out there that don’t necessarily play in the megaplexes. Huge Hollywood productions have their appeals but smaller films have people who will talk to the likes of us.
Please, make yourself at home, loosen up and be who you really are while you spend time in this community. We’re all a little different and we ask that you accept these differences rather than harp on them so that we can all feel free to indulge in our love of gaming. Want more specifics on who we are?
Owner/Editor in Chief – Ben: Born and raised in MA, shortly after High School I fled the states after a failed bid at becoming Mayor of a small, suburban town. I drifted through Europe with a group of ex-pats doing odd jobs and eventually we pooled together and bought a chicken farm.
After making a significant amount of Euros from the sale of eggs I migrated back to the east coast of the USA where I invested all of my savings into a kite manufacturer.
In my spare time I enjoy lobbing eggs at kites.
I’m also a geek. A nerd, a dweeb, whatever. Yes I owned garb, yes I still own medieval weaponry. And yeah, I could kick your butt in Mechwarrior the CCG. I love video games, role playing games, tactical board games and all forms of speculative fiction. I will never berate someone for wanting to be a Jedi and take everything Gary Gygax ever wrote as gospel. Well, all of this but that last bit.
Editor – Tracy Barnett: I’ve been been gaming for most of the last 10 years, and am often thinking about the subject. Hopefully when I write about games, you’ll find something to like.
Editor – Nundahl: A wild haired demi-viking living on the East Coast United States. Obsessed and addicted gamer, IT Professional, and not at all a professional writer. I’ve run games in countless systems and tanked more game nights than I’ve ever run successfully, but hopefully learned a lot in the process and I’d like to pass that on.
Author – Aaron: Roleplaying games are my hobby. Writing, running, playing, I have spent more time and more money in the last decade on gaming than anything else, save school (time) or my car (money). When not envisioning the next cyborg apocalypse, I’m trying to finish graduate school, writing material not suitable for gaming, or playing bass in a Klezmer band.
Author – Mike: I’m a geek, in pretty much every sense of the word. I like computers and technology, board games, video games, roleplaying games, and improvisational comedy (just for a bit of contrast). Gaming, in one form or another, has been a part of life ever since adolescence, when I first tried my hand at Shadowrun and AD&D (2nd Edition of both). Along the way, I flirted with CCGs, discovered true love in indie RPGs, and developed a serious board game habit. I’m less serious about video games, but I do enjoy gaming on my Wii, DS, and more recently, my iPhone.
Author – Mati: Hi, I’m Mati. I’m 22, and I work in IT. I love building and fixing computers. No, I won’t fix yours. I am an avid player of video games, and I regularly play and run paper and pencil RPG’s. I’ve also been a musician all my life, although I’m burned out on endless rehearsals and performances. I could cite more geek cred, but I’ll let my posts do that for me.
Author – Amby Dextrous: In 1980, I played Pong at my cousin’s house. In 1981, my older brother allowed me to roll a couple dice during his D&D session. From there it was a deep spiral down into running D&D games, Choose-Your-Own-Adventure novels, mini-painting, video/computer games, and more. The hobbies, industry, and community of the gaming-SciFi-fantasy-geek world are passions of mine. Little did my brother realize at the time, what a gamer his younger sister would turn into.
Author – JB: The name is JB, I’m a real world elementary school teacher and fantasy world evil plotting mastermind bent on the weekly torture of my PCs, so basically I am your average Game Mistress. I love costumes and try to find AS many times and places as possible to wear them. Video games are what fill up all the time that I should be doing marking, or are what I am rewarding myself with when the marking finally gets done. I love telling stories through many different venues, it’s even gotten to the point that as I walk in my grade eight math class I get asked “Do you have any stories today?”, of course that just might be because they don’t want to do math.
To make a long story short, I’m a geek and I’m a girl.
Yup, that about sums me up.
Vizier – Scott: I’ve been roleplaying for over 24 years as a player and GM both. I cut my teeth on D&D, moved to Twilight:2000 and Palladium FRPG among others. I now play in a Savage World of Solomon Kane campaign, and hope to run a Twilight:2013 campaign sometime soon.
