Yesterday afternoon my family had to say our final goodbyes  to one of our cats, Echo.  He was a pretty special cat, even as far as this site was concerned.  Out of all of my cats, he’s the only one who appears, if silently, in every single Old School Actual Play podcast, including the one to be released a week from today.  You may not have heard him in the recording but he was always there, often in one of our laps, or seated below the table.

He liked to hang out with us.

He was also present at every family game night.  As we all spread out on our living room floor to play Candyland, or Sorry, he would be there with us.  He loved the fact that we were all together, even if he didn’t understand the reasons behind it.

So goodbye old friend.  We’ll miss you at all of our family game nights, and RPG sessions where you were always there, ready and eager to be a part of our group.

About Ben

I'm a geek. A nerd, a dweeb, whatever. Yes I owned garb, yes I still own medieval weaponry. And yeah, I could kick your butt in Mechwarrior the CCG. I love video games, role playing games, tactical board games and all forms of speculative fiction. I will never berate someone for wanting to be a Jedi and take everything Gary Gygax ever wrote as gospel. Well, all of this but that last bit.

  1. Sorry to hear about the loss, man. We’ve got quite a few cats, ourselves, and I have no idea how I would react if we lost one of them. My condolences.

  2. Blessings to Echo and all of you.

  3. Hey Ben…I’m so sorry for your loss.

I’m a huge cat fan and we lost our oldest two (at 18 and 19 years) over the past couple of years. In fact Spinner, my cat, had very similar markings to Echo.

We currently have an entire herd of “Cattle” and love them dearly….so I completely understand how tough it can be saying farewell.

  4. Thanks all for your thoughts. It’s very much appreciate.

While it’s been sad for my wife and I, the kids have taken it particularly hard. Echo was our one cat who would consistently hang out with them.

  5. […] Lastly, although we didn’t know it at the time, we said our last goodbyes to an old friend. […]
