Paizo’s next book in the Pathfinder RPG series will be title Ultimate Magic and it will have lots of stuff to do with, well with magic and the magical classes.  The first document released for play testing is the Magus.  A new base class which is something of a combination between wizard and fighter.  Built in are the abilities to cast spells, wield weapons and wear armor without penalty.  You can grab a copy for yourself and see what all the fuss is about.

As the Magus increases in level, they are able to access heavier armor types and access Magus Arcana – arcane secrets tailored to the Magus’ specific blend of arms and fireballs.  Er… magical skill.

The Magus strikes me at first blush as being a very powerful character. Not as powerful as a full blown wizard nor a full blown fighter, but with some of the best aspects of both of them and a suite of abilities that go above and beyond.  Until I have a chance to play test this character myself, I’m going to hold of on commenting more about it but I’d love to hear what you have to say!

About Ben

I'm a geek. A nerd, a dweeb, whatever. Yes I owned garb, yes I still own medieval weaponry. And yeah, I could kick your butt in Mechwarrior the CCG. I love video games, role playing games, tactical board games and all forms of speculative fiction. I will never berate someone for wanting to be a Jedi and take everything Gary Gygax ever wrote as gospel. Well, all of this but that last bit.
