I was in two minds (Zaphod-like) as to whether see this movie or not but a suitable opportunity arose so off I went. I had seen a brief trailer and knew it was no ordinary sci-fi movie but that is all.

It opened with scenes to show the background – man alone on the moon looking forward to returning home soo, missing his family and frustrated by a lack of live feed from Earth. The whole ambience of this movie was reminiscent of 2001:A Space Odyssey. I guess part of that came from not only the cinematography but also the ‘man alone with a machine for company’ plot. But was the Kevin Spacey-voiced Gerty going to be another Hal?

Naturally as the film wended its way things became weird – but I won’t spoil the plot for you, suffice to say some of the camera work was VERY cleverly done.

The credits rolled and I was left with a couple of unanswered questions which may have been implied but not really directly addressed. However, overall I walked out of the movie theatre feeling satisfied I had gone to see it.

About Histrel

Born and bred in the UK, created two life forms. I'm a bit of a rock hen (not young enough to be a chick) who enjoys slaying dragons when not working as a freelance web designer or writing. I have a long-time passion for sci-fi/fantasy books, tv and films. 42 is my favourite number. I know where my towel is. I remember life before the internet, I don't know how I survived.
